ABSTRACT

Abstract Microgrids have been widely applied to improve the energy quality parameters of a distribution system locally, in addition to ensuring the operation of the system in an isolated manner. The Model Predictive Control (MPC) is a great solution to guarantee the operation of the system considering forecasting models and also physical restrictions of the system, which ensure the optimal operation of the Microgrid. However, the construction of a control scheme following the objectives established in order to meet the connected and isolated operation of a Microgrid is still a challenge. This paper proposes the development of an MPC control scheme that assures optimal system operation in connected and islanded mode, improving power quality indexes, ensuring network requirements, and extending battery life cycle. The proposed control operation in the connected mode can attend to the needs of the Microgrid, reducing the impacts of peak demand and the intermittent variations in renewable generation, where a linear objective function is developed for this purpose. In the islanded mode, grid requirements are guaranteed through load shedding, considering improvements in continuity indicators. Forecasting models are implemented considering the MPC approach and a detailed network model is developed. Simulation results highlight the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.

ABSTRACT

Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) is used in post-trauma or articulations surgery rehabilitation to articulate, and its application may produce positive results in members` rehabilitation. This study aimed to analyze and to discuss the use of CPM equipment in elbow rehabilitation through a bibliographical survey of studies published in the last 10 years. This bibliographical survey was done in a computerized databank of Virtual Library in Health, EBSCO HOST, PeDRO, Cochrane Library and Science Direct. For locating studies, we used the keywords continuous passive movement, elbow and elbow MPC/CPM in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Complete articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish were selected. The research strategy focused on studies of the treatment of elbow pathologies using CPM as an isolated method and associated to other physiotherapeutic techniques. The sample was composed by 16 newspaper articles. In 11 articles, CPM application associated or not to other physiotherapeutic methods, has produced beneficial results; 1 did not present differences in the comparison between the use of (CPM) and the use of other techniques; 2 presented positive results, emphasizing specific cares, and 2 called for more studies for result verification. Therefore, it was possible to shoe that researchs are now exploring the use of CPM in elbow rehabilitation, but parameters used and application methods are not well explained. In addition, it was possible to perceive that today CPM is used as an adjuvant method of physiotherapeutic rehabilitation, with the prevalence of positive results.

ABSTRACT

0.05).Our results showed that, for recommended oral doses of ciprofloxacin and moxifloxacin,44.2% of E.coli isolates from the intestine of the health population, and 29.5%,18.7% and 10.7% of isolates from the three sterile sites of the patients, would be selected as resistant mutants. When ciprofloxacin and moxifloxacin were taken by injection route, the ratio of the selection of resistant mutants would be 9.3% for E.coli isolates from the intestine of the health population and 8.2%,6.2% and 8.9% for the three sterile sites of the patients, respectively. The maximum attainable concentration of levofloxacin in serum showed little distinction between the oral and the other routes.CONCLUSIONS The values of MIC and MPC of three fluoroquinolones in E.coli isolates from different populations and sites show no association. The values of MPC couldn't be predicted by the MIC.The values of MPC and MPC90 of three drugs show no significant discrepancy for tested isolates, these E.coli strains are isolated from the intestine of heath persons, and from the blood, ascites, bile of patients.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To study whether the ciprofloxacin(CIP)combined with amikacin(AMK)will decrease the drug-resistant mutants of Escherichia coli(ECO)in vitro.METHODS The MIC of CIP and AMK alone was determined by agar plates dilution method, and the combined MIC by checkerboard method. The mutant prevention concentration(MPC)both alone and combined was determined by the method of agar plates dilution method, and then the value of selectiveity index(SI)(MPC/MIC)would be acquired.RESULTS The SI of two antibiotics separatedly were 16(CIP)and 32(AMK).When two antibiotics combined,if the concentration of AMK and CIP reached 2MIC could restrain the mutants. After these two antibiotics combined, the value of SI(MPCcombined/MICcombined)came to be 8(0.008/0.001)and 8(2.0/0.25).CONCLUSIONS Compared with alone,CIP and AMK combined can decrease the MPC and SI to ECO,and have the more effect to AMK.In this way,we can reduce the drug-resistant mutants.

ABSTRACT

To identify the regulatory region that are responsible for the expression of mPC-1, we have isolated and characterized the mPC-1 gene promoter. Sequence analysis of the mPC-1 5' -flanking region and a series of truncated constructs were performed, which were transiently transfected into the prostate cancer cell lines and non-prostate cancer cell lines and analyzed through Dual-luciferase reporter assay system. The relative activity of mPC-1 gene promoter was by far higher than pGL3-control containing SV40 promoter and enhancer and p61-PSA containing hPSA 6 kb promoter in AR (androgen receptor, AR ) -positive prostate cancer cell lines. The region from 599 bp to 449 bp of mPC-1 promoter might contain a negative regulatory element. The expression of mPC-1 1.1 kb fragment is mainly restricted into prostate cancer cell lines. The relative activity of mPC-1 1.1 kb 5'-flanking region was regulated by androgen. The results demonstrated that the 1.1 kb fragment of mPC-1 5' -flanking region was relatively strong and prostate cancer cell specific promoter region. The 1.1 kb promoter of mPC-1 gene might be well suited to prostate cancer gene therapy if the promoter was properly modified.

ABSTRACT

Gray platelet syndrome (GPS) is one of primary hemostatic disorders with characteristics of moderate bleeding tendency, thrombocytopenia, gray platelet on Wright-Giemsa stained smear and absence of platelet -granule. It is known to be mostly inherited by autosomal dominance but not all. We report a case of gray platelet syndrome diagnosed in a woman with bleeding tendency such as easy bruise and evaluate clinical usefulness of mean platelet component (MPC), mean platelet volume (MPV) and platelet component distribution width (PCDW) using ADVIA 120 (Bayer Diagnostics, NY, USA).

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Abnormal platelet activation has been identified in several disorders characterizedby vascular patholo-gy including coronary artery disease, Alzheimer disease, myeloproliferative disorders, diabetes, preeclampsia, inflam-matory bowel disease and glomerular disease. Antiplatelet therapy has been valuable in the management of some of these conditions. The aim of this study is to verify usefulness of mean platelet component (MPC) concentration as a marker of thrombotic process in patients with cerebral infarction. Our hypothesis is that MPC as measured by the ADVIA(R) 120 hematology system is used to detect and monitor platelet activation associated with thrombotic process of ischemic stroke. METHODS: To study the existence of platelet activation at the onset of cerebral infarction, mean platelet concentration of platelets were measured daily during post-stroke 10 days. Thirty-four acute thrombotic cerebral infarction and seventeen age-matched healthy persons were selected for this study. To investigate the time course of the platelet MPC changes observed in stroke patients, the blood samplings for MPC measuring were done and analyzed on the ADVIA 120(R) system. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant decrease in MPC concentration of the platelets at post-stroke 3rd to 7th day compared to the control group ( p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that a reduction of MPC as measured by the ADVIA 120(R) hematology system may be used to detect and monitor thrombotic process associated with platelet activation in ischemic stroke.
